Church Planting among the Nahuatl

Lake Lundgren Bible Camp & Fathers Day

Two weeks ago we traveled 4 hours northeast to Pembine, WI to spend a week as the Missionary speakers at Lake Lundgren Bible Camp. It was Lake Lundgren’s first Teen camp of the summer, and there were 120 campers 9th-12th grade registered for the week of camp.

Some of our good friends, Jim & Trisha Vanden Langdenberg told us we should visit a little diner, Mary’s Place, on our way up. Jim’s sister owns the restaurant and we were told the pie was fabulous! So, of course we had to stop, and shared a slice of blueberry-rhubarb pie ala mode…and it was amazing! Thanks Jim & Trisha we enjoyed our visit to Mary’s place!

Neither Pete nor myself had ever been to Lake Lundgren before, so we were not sure what to expect, but were incredibly excited to share our passion for taking the gospel to the unreached with these High School campers, camp counselors, and camp staff. When we arrived we were directed to our cabin and settled in, then we explored the camp so we would know our way around the next day.

Bright and early we woke up for breakfast and met most of the staff. We also met the Bible speaker, Bradley Caffee, and his family and did the last minute preparations for the week of lessons that we were planning on sharing. Throughout the week we shared for 30 minutes every morning during the morning chapel hour using a variety of messages, power point slides, skits, illustrations, and video clips. It was neat to see the campers’ response and talk to different staff and campers about what God’s Word says regarding taking the gospel to all nations. We had several hours of free time in the afternoons as well where we were able to participate in activities with the campers and spend time with our new friends Bradley & Tirzah Caffee, the Bible speaker and his wife, and Ben & Jessica Maxson, the camp nurse and her husband. We also had some late game nights with these guys, but all the laughs were well worth the lack of sleep! Here are a few pictures from our camp experience.

Speaking at camp was a great experience and we hope to keep in touch with Lake Lundgren staff and possibly come back when we are on furlough in a few years!

Right after arriving home from camp we did laundry, unpacked, etc…and got ready to celebrate Father’s Day the next afternoon. Our Grandpa and Grandma were up visiting from Chicago and Jay & Lindsey (Liesl’s brother, and sis-in-law) had planned a nice BBQ in their backyard for all of us to celebrate the day together. Jay grilled burgers, Lindsey cooked delicious corn and got everything ready, we all brought a dish to share and enjoyed games and just spending time together in the beautiful summer weather. Thanks Lindsey and Jay for bringing the family together.

We are tired, but ready for another week! God is continually reminding us of His faithfulness and love towards us as He puts us in contact with new brothers and sisters in Christ and allows us the opportunities to build relationships.
